Michael Myers showing up at Laurie Strodeās house 40 years later:
Obviously spoilers about the new Halloween film below, so donāt read if you donāt want to get spoiled.
Let me just start by saying that I have CHILLS and Michael Myers is probably the best horror movie slasher/serial killer ever. What a legend. (He must be such an awesome character to play – who wouldnāt want to play Michael Myers?) Here, he is just like he was before, but thanks to the modern standards of horror film making, heās even more threatening and epic. So gorgeous, so epic – so proud of my boy.
Iām also proud of my girl Laurie Strode whoās now this badass grandma. I never wanted her to die, and thank god, she is indestructible.
This was my first time seeing a Halloween movie in the cinema, and that feeling when the legendary Halloween music started playing…. I had chills. I was so happy. I was smiling and giddy like a little kid even before the film had started. And Iām so glad THIS was my first Halloween cinema experience, instead of those Rob Zombie remakes (out of which, the second movie is so bad I could barely watch it once).
Anyways, I need to list some of the most memorable things about the film.
-THE SCENE WHERE MICHAEL IS REUNITED WITH HIS MASK. The way he picks it up and touches it, so GENTLY. And when he finally puts it on, you hear that first breath under the mask. So iconic. (I also nearly cheered when his breathing could be heard – possibly for the last time ever?? – after the end credits.)
-Luckily they donāt spoil things by showing Michaelās face (at least not fully, itās always obscured somehow). BECAUSE MICHAELāS MASK IS HIS FACE.
-When Michael finds THE KNIFE.
-The music is so PERFECT. Obviously, the classic melodies and themes and elements from the original score are used in the movie (some scenes are also almostĀ āredoneā, like theyāre new versions of familiar scenes from the original film, and the usage of music is similar). However, there are many awesome new elements added to it so itās overall just perfect. Like the music in the scene where Laurieās granddaughter sees Michael for the first time – AAAHHH SOEPICWONDERFUL. (I need this soundtrack.)
-And since I already kind of mentioned it – I enjoyed the throwbacks to the original film immensely. Itās funny how, in a way, in this film āLaurie is Michaelā. I mean, at least a couple of scenes are sort of re-imagined (in which, instead of Michael itās Laurie in the scene). Such as the scene in the original film where Laurie is at school and looking out of the window, seeing Michael standing outside, looking at her. In this film, it is her granddaughter at school, looking out of the window, seeing LAURIE standing there (but lol not in such a creepy kind of way of course). They also made a reference to the scene where Michael is lying on the ground, seemingly dead, and the next time we take a look heās gone. Only, in this film, it is LAURIE whoās on the ground, and when Michael looks back, sheās gone. (I wonder if that spooked him?)
Anyways there are lots of other throwbacks/references to the original film as well (itās always fun spotting them).
-FANTASTIC KILLS. SO MUCH MORE GORE. There sort of has to be, since people today are used to much more graphic horror than they were 40 years ago.
-AAAHHH HE DID THE THING. This thing I mean:
I fucking love it when Michael does the thing.
-And yes I need to mention this again. In a way, Laurie is the new Michael – and perhaps Michael is the one who is afraid of her. This is an idea that is brought up in the film. It is possible that both Michael and Laurie fear one another, expecting the other to come and kill them. In the first film Michael beat Laurie (even though she survived), but now, Laurie finally beats Michael. Fuck yeah. So maybe the evil emotionless monster has feelings. Maybe he is afraid of something after all. (I doubt it though.)
-I also love that Laurie and her daughter manage to outsmart Michael Myers. Michael is not just a mindless killer, heās smart af. And these women know it. Which is why they manage to beat him. I mean…. for now. This film feels like āthe true endingā, but Michael is a LEGEND so you never know, he could still come back.
(Michael certainly looks quite beat when heās captured in hisĀ ātrapā, looking up at Laurie like….Ā āwell fuckā. Aww that made me sad.)
Slskjadlakjlkajd so yes this is such a wonderful movie and everything that came between this and the original film were just weird AUs (although Iād still sort of like to think Michael and Laurie are siblings, which is a detail they brought in Halloween 2.)
