Three days of nothing but lgbt films, and now I’m finished. Lots of interesting films this year. Today’s short films were particularly memorable (especially the Indian film Sisak: the story, the music – all of it was so beautiful). My favourite of the day was the Dutch film “Just Friends” (cute and fun, makes you feel good, kind of like that other Dutch movie I saw at Vinokino one year, “The Queen of Amsterdam”, although “Just Friends” wasn’t campy or nearly as silly). 

I also kind of liked/hated “Just Charlie” (a film about a trans girl) but idk, I hate when they do that thing in queer movies where violence happens and then the next scene is in a graveyard so the viewer will be like “oh so they’re dead now” but then it turns out to be another occasion and the character is alive and well. I mean I prefer this trend to the queer characters actually dying, but I hate that they still sort of play with the assumption that the character is going to die. They do that more and more in films nowadays so I just guessed that was the case here too.

Anyways. Ideal Home was the best movie of the festival this year and I wish these characters had a tv show rather than just a single movie.

Stop asking little girls if they have boyfriends
Stop referring to the boys that little girls are friends with as their “little boyfriends”
Stop telling little girls they’re going to have boyfriends or be “boy crazy”
Stop raising children on heteronormativity and let them be children

Additionally:
1. It’s not funny
2. It’s not cute
3. You are embarrassing them
4. You are completely disregarding them when they tell you “no” and you insist

Stop doing the same to little boys too.

They are not “a little lady’s man.”

Don’t excuse him picking on a girl as him having a crush. Correct the behavior and stop treating it like it’s cute and normal.

Also stop insisting little boys have crushes on significantly older women. It’s gross.

Just let kids be kids.

Its not “men and women just cant be friends” its “you fourced romantic implications on children and made them uncomfortable/embarassed, socially conditioning them to not platonically interact with the opposite sex”
