I’m trying to indulge myself, or rather, trying to enjoy things I used to enjoy, since I don’t seem to enjoy much anything at the moment. So I went to see Black Panther yesterday – I had pretty high expectations of it because most Marvel movies are 99% crap nowadays and there are waaaay too many of them. Most of them are nothing but “lololol dank memes”, especially Thor movies and ugh I’m pretty much just bored with everyone who’s name is Chris.
And thankfully Black Panther is definitely better than an average Marvel movie. Visually, gorgeous. The soundtrack – pretty average, but when it’s good it’s really fucking good (I loved the African elements in the score, just brillant). And overall it’s a film that’s definitely needed.
I also love masks so much and jhfsdkjhkjsf, there’s a reason I absolutely fell in love with the whole character of Black Panther back when I saw him in Civil War. So badass. So gorgeous.
Ofc we still don’t get to have any lgbt characters because why would we. Apparently Okoye was supposed to have a girlfriend originally but obviously they wouldn’t allow that. Damn. She’s my favourite character too. I mean wow. I’m in love. She’s so badass. (At least they didn’t turn a canon lgbt character from the comic books into a heterosexual but still. Ugh.)
But overall I enjoyed it a lot. Beautiful and impressive, emphasis on important themes. They should just ditch Thor and Iron Man completely and make a couple of more Black Panther movies.
Tomorrow I’ll probably go see Pacific Rim 2 because I’ve been waiting for this movie for a long time and also ROBOTS (!!!).
(Edit: I looked it up and apparently Baaba Maal sings in the Black Panther soundtrack. No wonder the voice sounded so familiar – he also sings in Black Hawk Down soundtrack and I adore that soundtrack. His voice is amazing.)
