I forgot to make a post about Pacific Rim 2 (which I saw a week ago). Probably because the movie was mostly just, meh? Which is disappointing because the first Pacific Rim is basically one of my favourite scifi films ever.

The robots, of course, had me super excited. Especially that huge kaiju jaeger, Obsidian Fury. The way it walked out of the ocean, looking all badass, and then destroyed everything. Wow, I was weak. I also loved the new Gipsy, as well as Saber Athena. (Looks like I have some action figures to buy, lmao.)

But all in all, the film was rather dull, and there were some things/characters there that honestly made me wonder like “what’s the point”. Also the soundtrack was mostly boring. I love the soundtrack of the first film. Pacific Rim 2 had maybe one cool moment music-wise, and it of course featured the original theme.

The inter-character relations were particularly baffling. I mean, what was the point of that one female character (her name was Jules, I think)? She had maybe… two whole scenes in total. You could easily forget that she was even in the movie. Was she supposed to be part of some sort of love triangle because honestly? I didn’t see it. Like she was barely in the movie, and then kissed the two main male characters goodbye. The whole thing was completely platonic, and yet, the scene was built so that it was made into a big deal. What the fuck.

I’m especially baffled since Jake was constantly expressing his attraction to Nate. How the hell did these two not become an item? Jake literally called Nate “handsome and sexy” and told him he had a pretty face. It wasn’t even a joke, Jake at one point says to himself “he is handsome and sexy”. I was like wow, these two totally banged. They’re even drift compatible. How can you not see this as anything else but super gay?

And they didn’t even make it out to be a big deal that they were drift compatible. I call bullshit. They always make it a big deal, even if there is no romance between characters.

Anyway, whatever. Another story that completely wastes perfect opportunities.

Another thing I didn’t understand was that they sent kids to the final battle. Did I miss something, or why didn’t they have actual experienced jaeger pilots available? Why send children to save the entire planet?

I also can’t believe they killed Mako Mori. Why was that necessary. Or the whole thing they did with Newt. Although I do find it sweet how Newt and Hermann did still seem like they were close(ish), after all these years. Too bad Newt was “married” to a kaiju blob.

Oh and poor Gipsy. Always has to be blown up at the end of the movie. Lmao.

But all in all, it was a pretty entertaining film I guess, but it missed the special magic and epicness of the first film. I still love all the robots though. And the monsters. But especially the robots. 🤖🤖🤖

And speaking of movies… lol Avengers Infinity War looks like it’s going to be absolute crap. Honestly, if you put dozens of famous characters into a movie, it’s not going to make it better. It’s just going to be a huge mess.
